The battery of an e-scooter caught fire next to the bin outside the takeaway Best Food 2000 and was extinguished by the owner. The unusual occurrence drew significant attention from onlookers, including local resident Nigel Everett, who noted that those nearby were vigilant for any potential “explosions”.
Mr. Everett commented, “I was in a meeting nearby and came out at about 6.54pm. The bin was in a bad state but had been extinguished by the takeaway staff. People were advising others to cross the street to avoid potential further explosions.”

A spokesperson for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that a fire crew was present at the scene for about an hour. They stated, “Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service received the call on March 25 at 6.57pm, dispatching a fire engine from Bampton Fire Station to Market Place in Faringdon. An e-scooter experienced a battery fire, which the owner extinguished using a dry powder extinguisher before the fire service’s arrival. The crew assisted by placing the battery/scooter in water to ensure safety before leaving at 8.06pm.”
