Oxford Man’s Sentencing Delayed as Judge Urges Legal Representation in Serious Child Image Case

James Howell, a resident of Oxford Lane in Grove, was scheduled to face sentencing at the Oxford Crown Court for multiple charges: three counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and two counts related to indecent images involving a child.

The 49-year-old admitted guilt concerning access to an Apple iPad, an Amazon Fire Stick, and an Amazon Fire tablet, all devoid of risk management software, during the period from July 9, 2015, to January 16 of this year.

Additionally, eight Category A images and one Category B image of a child were discovered on an Amazon Fire tablet in his possession.

Howell entered guilty pleas at the local magistrates’ court on January 18, and the matter was referred to the higher court for sentencing. Unfortunately, Howell appeared unrepresented during the proceedings.

When Judge Ian Pringle inquired about Howell’s previous legal representation, Howell responded, “It was all a blur to me. I just assumed it would be legal aid.”

Judge Pringle suggested it would be wise to postpone the case to allow Howell to find representation, emphasizing the gravity of the offences involved.

The proceedings have been adjourned to provide Howell an opportunity to secure legal representation for his next hearing.
