Charlton Lodge Celebrates Grand Opening with Music, Classic Cars, and Community Cheers

Residents and staff at Charlton Lodge gathered with the local community and special guests for the grand opening on Wednesday, January 29.

The mayor, Councillor Dr. Angela Dunford, officially declared the care home open, marking the occasion with an engaging celebration.

Attendees enjoyed live music from singer Charmaine and the Wantage Silver Band, along with a showcase of classic Mini cars displayed in the car park. This display honored the Mini manufacturer’s factory in Cowley.

In addition to the lively entertainment, guests were offered a glass of bubbly, canapés, and tours of the new home.

Carla Kell, the home manager at Charlton Lodge, expressed her delight, saying, “Our grand launch party was a huge success, the perfect way to officially open Charlton Lodge. Our neighbors have been so warm and welcoming, and we loved meeting so many local people—we already feel like part of the community.”

Adding to the festive atmosphere was the Wantage Silver Band, who provided music to celebrate the occasion. Carla went on to thank Councillor Dr. Angela Dunford for her role in the opening, stating, “We were delighted to have her join us and are grateful for her support in cutting the ribbon. It truly was a day to remember, and we hope to invite everyone back soon for more fantastic events at Charlton Lodge.”

Councillor Dunford remarked, “Seeing the transformation from a building site to the welcoming home I visited was incredible. It was lovely to meet the staff and first residents, and I wish them all much happiness.”
