In a tragic incident, 21-year-old student Matthew Liddle was found dead in East Hendred. A resident of Millers Gardens, Market Harborough in Leicestershire, Liddle’s body was discovered on May 29 by a close friend in a lane off Allins Lane.

Emergency services were promptly contacted, and a police officer arrived at the scene at 12:54 PM, where it was confirmed that Matthew had passed away.

Coroner’s Inquest and Investigation

An inquest was opened on April 17 by Senior Coroner Darren Salter at the Oxford Coroner’s Court. During the proceedings, it was officially stated that the cause of Matthew’s death was ‘hanging.’ Inquests like these are conducted to determine key details such as the deceased’s identity, cause, timing, and manner of death. These procedures are not meant to assign responsibility but to provide clarity and closure for those impacted.

In cases of sudden or unnatural deaths, particularly where such deaths occur under complex circumstances, inquests play a vital role in shedding light on any unanswered questions. They offer support to families and friends by giving them a clearer understanding of the circumstances.

A full inquest has been scheduled by Coroner Salter to take place on August 21 at 10:00 AM at the same court. Depending on the circumstances at the time, COVID-19 protocols may necessitate a remote hearing. Further investigations are expected following the inquest to gather any additional information that may help Matthew’s loved ones find closure.
