Improved Abbey Meadow Park offers summer fun for families – with a bonus attraction to keep geese at bay

Abingdon’s Abbey Meadow has undergone improvements aimed at reducing the number of geese in the area. The local council installed a new fence last year, designed to deter the birds while ensuring the safety of young children and allowing riverside picnickers to enjoy their meals without disturbance. This summer, visitors can look forward to a new seating area at the on-site kiosk, which will be open from Saturday, 27 May, through September.

In addition to the improvements at Abbey Meadow, families in Wantage and surrounding areas can enjoy the splash pad at Memorial Park. Managed by Vale of White Horse District Council’s parks team, the splash pad will also open on 27 May, providing free water-based entertainment for children throughout the summer months. Cllr Debra Dewhurst, cabinet member for Leisure Centres and Community Buildings, highlighted that splash pads remain a favorite among families, especially those navigating the current cost-of-living challenges.
