After an impressive 44 years of providing entertainment to the community, the White Horse Roadshow has announced that it will hold its final disco on New Year’s Eve this year. Citing rising financial costs and family commitments, the family-run mobile disco has made the decision to close this chapter of its journey.
Managing Director Phillip Wearing began this venture in the late 1970s, initially hosting discos to raise funds for the Uffington Boys Football Club, which he managed at the time. The first event took place at Uffington Village Hall and quickly gained popularity among people from nearby areas, including Faringdon and Wantage. By 1985, Phillip rebranded from “Philco Disco” to the now well-known “White Horse Roadshow.”
Over the decades, the family business grew significantly. Phillip was joined by his sons – Jason, who served as Technical Director, and David, who took on the role of Operations Advisor. The mobile disco became recognised for tailoring shows specifically to clients’ needs, offering a rich array of music from the 1950s and 1960s all the way to current hits.
In their joint statement, the Wearing family expressed heartfelt gratitude to their fans and customers for their unwavering support over the years. They cherished the many memories made and friendships formed throughout their journey. The family assured their community that all current bookings would be honoured, and that they would continue to accept new bookings until the year’s end.
The final show took place on December 31, marking the end of a remarkable era for the White Horse Roadshow. The Wearings thanked their dedicated support staff for their contributions over the decades, and shared their appreciation for the trust and loyalty placed in them by their customers. While they acknowledged the inconvenience their closure might cause for some, they expressed deep gratitude for having been part of so many special occasions within the community.
