Oxfordshire County Council approves new 20mph speed limits for local communities despite objections

Oxfordshire County Council has approved plans to introduce 20mph speed limits in several local communities where there is strong local support for the change. Specific areas that have been approved for the reduced speed limits include East Hanney, West Hanney, and West Challow.

During the approval process, Thames Travel expressed opposition to including a section of Summertown under the reduced speed limit plan. They argued it could push customers to consider alternative modes of transportation. Additionally, the reduced speed proposals for East Hanney were met with criticism from Stagecoach, which claimed the plans were not “well justified” or “likely to be effective.” In response, Vale of White Horse District Councillor Sally Povolotsky extended an invitation to Thames Travel representatives to visit the village to discuss their concerns further.

These changes align with the county council’s ongoing efforts to enhance community safety and respond to residents’ requests.
