The Bear at Wantage has been a landmark in Oxfordshire for close to 500 years, overlooking the historic marketplace since the 16th century. While its history may not go back as far as King Alfred's days, it has been a staging point for thousands of weary travelers over the course of its existence.
Today, The Bear is the hub of Wantage, attracting coffee/tea drinkers in the morning, real ale enthusiasts in the evening, and everyone in between. Our award-winning restaurant, led by head chef Dylan Bettson, serves up sumptuous meals while our 34 newly decorated en suite hotel rooms provide a comfortable place to rest.
Our team is led by Ellie, our Sous Chef who has been living and breathing hospitality since she moved into her first pub at just 3 months old, and Georgia, who holds a degree in Business and Event Management and looks after the front of the house. They are supported by their parents Keith and Jo, who have 27 years of experience in the hospitality industry.
