wantage.com is an independent local guide to Wantage, Grove and the nearby OX12 villages. This page explains who writes it, how we check it, how we pay for it and how to tell us when something is wrong.
Who runs the site
wantage.com is run by First Ideas Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 08885551. The site started in 1997, and First Ideas took it on in March 2023. You can read more about us.
How we write and check our guides
- We write for people who live in, work in or visit the area, and we only cover what is useful locally.
- Facts such as opening times, prices, term dates and rules come from the people who run the thing: the business, the club, the school, Oxfordshire County Council, the Vale of White Horse District Council or GOV.UK. Where a guide relies on one of these, we link to it.
- We use software tools, including AI writing tools, to help draft and update pages. A person on our team checks the facts before a page is published, and we stay responsible for everything on the site.
- We update guides when things change, and we review the most-used pages regularly.
Listings and support services
Listing a local business, club or venue is free. Owners can update their listing, and anyone can tell us what has changed. Every service on our help and support page is checked, at least every three months, and you cannot pay to be listed there.
How the site is paid for
We take no public money. Running costs are covered by optional Featured listings, which local businesses pay for to appear more prominently. Paying for a Featured listing does not change what our guides say about a business.
Photos
Many photos come from local photographers and from Wikimedia Commons under free licences. We credit them on our photo credits and acknowledgements pages.
Corrections
If something on wantage.com is wrong or out of date, use the “Tell us” link on that page or report a change. We check it and update the page, usually within a day. For anything else, email hello@wantage.com.
