The October Club in Wantage cares for people with Alzheimer's and dementia. It provides a safe and comfortable day centre where clients are cared for with understanding and dignity, and gives carers and relatives a short break and support. The Club respects the rights of the people who attend, and confidentiality is a priority.
The Club is at 1 to 3 The Cloisters, Wantage, OX12 8AQ. Its staff are the Manager, Teresa Taylor, two care assistants and a chef. The care assistants are trained through the year on Alzheimer's and dementia and other relevant subjects, and all staff are DBS checked.
The October Club is a registered charity (number 900331, registered in 1990), managed by local people who volunteer their time as its management committee and trustees.
What happens at the Club
The Club is open from 9am to 3pm, Wednesday to Friday. It is not open on Tuesdays. Phone 01235 760428 to check before a first visit.
Activities
Card and board games, bingo, musical activities, indoor bowls and skittles, art and craft, quizzes, computerised activities and entertainment.
Lunch
A hot, nourishing meal at lunchtime, freshly prepared on site by the Club's own chef. The Club is happy to accommodate any dietary requirement.
Drinks and snacks
Coffee, soft drinks and snacks are available throughout the day at no extra charge.
A break for carers
While clients spend the day at the Club, their families and carers get some respite.

Volunteering and donations
Volunteers: the Club depends on volunteers to help with client activities, and its management committee and trustees are local volunteers too. If you are interested, contact the Manager during opening hours or email enquiries@octoberclub.org.uk.
Fundraising: events through the year pay for extra items for clients' comfort and enjoyment and improve the Club's facilities. Help from the local community is welcome, and the Club's fundraiser can be contacted at the Club or by email.
Donations: the Club could not function fully without donations from local people. Contact the Manager, or give through the Club's JustGiving page.
