Wantage.com is run independently by First Ideas Ltd – a web hosting and web design agency that took on the running of the site in 2023. We are working closely with Howard Hill who was the original creator of the site.

History

Christian Noll and Howard Hill started this website way back in 1997. They wanted to make a sustainable community website that was interesting and entertaining. The goal was to pull together existing information about Wantage and Grove and nearby villages (creating content where there wasn’t any) but they didn’t want to use public money for its day-to-day running. They met those goals and created a great asset for the community.

Funding

The Wantage Business Directory provides enough income to help with the running costs of this website and also enables us to sponsor other local websites, such as Wantage and Grove Foodbank https://www.wantageandgrovefoodbank.org.uk, The October Club https://www.octoberclub.org.uk and Wantage and Grove Church Partnership https://www.wgcp.org.uk

Wantage Websites

In 2017, Wantage Town Council created their own version of this website. It is called Love Wantage and covers much the same functionality. Ever since Love Wantage was created, the council has promoted their own website exclusively.
